  • Cities and countries I have visited

I travelled quite a bit in my life, which I am really thankful for.

England, France, Italy, Spain… this were the most memorable countries.

France was great because it was my first travel without my parents. I visited France with a friend, we were at the Disneyland for 3 days (yes, cliched, but it was actually quite fun!) and we explored Paris for 2 days.
Paris was incredable, beautiful and I will hopefully come back soon!

But my favorite country was England/Gread Britian. I love Britian, the landscape, the big citys and the small villages, the hills, the sea, the friendly locals. English is a great language, on which I am still working.

  • Favourite books/authors/films

My favourite books changes from time to time. Currently it is “Paper Towns” from one of my favourite authors, John Green.
Why? Because I can identify myself with the main character, Margo Ruth Spiegelmann. Everyone has expectations of you based on how you look or how they think you are, based on the picture they have from you. But nobody really knows you´re inside, you´re “true me”.

As I said, one of my favourite authors is John Green. He has the gift to put the feelings in words that I can´t put in words, and he gifs me the feeling that I am normal with the things that I feel.
What I also love is Harry Potter. Each and every book. I just love Harry Potter so much.
Also, J.K. Rolwling is one of my favourite authors. She is just such a genius, it is incredible. What she created with this book, the complex world, the complex story… wow. Just wow!

Don´t really have a favourite movie.

  • Living abroad for one year

    Britian Britian Britian!
On the one hand because the British people are so different then the Germans. They are so plain, more communicative then the Germans. You can get in contact with British people easier, they are friendly- the opposite from Germans.
On the other Hand I love England. The Landscape, from beautiful grasslands to rugged rocks, the beautiful beaches and the small, cute villages.

And then there is London- the great London. The International, pulsing London, I love it!

  • I always enjoy talking about...

Horror, cause I find everything that has to do with Horror. Also, it´s my favorite book- and film genre.

Panic! At the Disco and Sia, cause they are my favorite musicians at the Moment.

School, cause I am always glad when it is over.

My apprenticeship because I am really happy with it and it makes up a big part of my life.

My sleep cycle because it is really shitty and seems to work less and less the way I
    want it.

    And food, because… food! 😃

  • Making the world a better place

I don´t think that´s possible. I mean, yeah, it would be beautiful, but its utopian.

I mean, it’s already up to me. Of course I would wish we had a better world, but I also eat meat and destroy the planet while having a many lives on my consciences.

I want the equality between man and woman to happen, but am too afraid to fight for it because I don’t want to be seen as a crazy feminist.

I want that same-sex relationships are seen as normal, but I don´t speak out because I myself live in the closet.

  • Personal skills

I think for an 18-year old German girl for whom English is not the native language I speak English quite good. At least I hope that’s the case. (My level is B2, if anyone´s interested.)
I can also express myself good in writing and other people say I have a good writing-style. (I used to write stories and poems, but I quit because I have very little time for it. Maybe I will start someday again.)

No matter how crazy and incomprehensible a situation is, I always found a way out.

I am a good listener and I can put myself well in others. Sometimes I give good advice.

But my biggest ability is probably that I can study the content of 5 school weeks in one night and still somehow get a B / grade 2 in the test the next day.

  • Childhood pleasures

What did I liked most as a children?

Niceness. If you were nice to me, I was nice to you!
I also liked people who you could have fun with. What kind of question is this?

  • I recently learnt...

Don’t be afraid of changes and look forward to the future.

I was always someone who hated changes. Everything should stay the same, because that’s the way I felt safe. Always the same people, always the same routine.

But when I started my apprenticeship that shouldn´t work anymore. The apprenticeship was in a different town, I met new people and seeing my “old people” got rare.
I stood for the question: Do you want to move out from your parents into your own flat? Do you want to make your driving license now when you have the chance to?

I did both. I was incredible afraid. Afraid, that everything is going wrong. I didn´t wanted to meet new people; I wanted to keep my old friends.
But what can I say? I live alone for a year now and it is great. One of the best decisions I ever made. I have grown mentally on having to organise myself and having to take care myself. And even if I still oversleep sometimes on schooldays or forget to turn of the heater- I am sure that I became more of an adult by living alone this one year compared to if I still lived by my parents. Even though it would be more comfortable sometimes, cause they like to do unpleasant stuff for me.
Also, if I had still lived with them, there was always someone who would wake me up if I oversleep, who could drive me to work if I am too late… this would be helpful for the moment, but in my opinion I learned more from oversleeping and therefore being too late one time- never happened again! 😉

I also made new friends, and even though I “just” know them for one year while some of my “old” friendships last 3-4 years or more, I feel like all of the new friends I made here are super-supportive, they show me that they like and respect me with such little actions and probably without even realising it… I just love them so much!

Don´t be afraid of changes! Look forward to them and embrace them!

  • 10 years from now

I want to live together with my partner and adopt 5 cats.

I would love to live in a house and still work at the federal authority where I did my apprenticeship, because I really like it there.
Every Friday our friends would come along, the guys would watch football or talk about politics and we girls would gossip about the “Bachelorette” or “Gossip Girl”/”Pretty Little Liars” or whatever, which we of course don´t watch active, because it has no complex plot or revolves around real-life problems, but of course know everything that happened in the last episodes and who gossiped about who…

I don´t want children, cause I wanna stay independent and care about me and my partner, not about a child.
We would be financially independent from each other but could rely on each other.
The “Everyday life” wouldn´t catch up on us, because we would create a exciting and without routines, so that there isn´t really everyday life, as far as this is possible.

Oh, and if I could get a normal sleep cycle until then, therefore wouldn’t have to survive on 5 hours of sleep per week and could catch up on the 10 years of lack of sleep, it would be amazing. But because I want to be realistic this is something that is probably not realistic.

  • I'm excited about...

Panic at the Disco and Sia, because the Music is great. From the Instrumentals to the lyrics, they´re tracks are so wonderful and almost always meets my taste.

Also: Harry Potter! I love Harry Potter. Every time I re-read it I discover new, little details that surprise and fascinate me. The detailed world is so fascinating and great.

  • Something uncommon about me

I am very contrasting. Soungs odd? It is. Wanna hear an example?

I have a fear of heights. It is really extreme, but I did a spontaneous Bunge-Jump a few months ago anyway.

(But it wasn´t really voluntary- the dude that was supposed to do the Bunge-Jump was too afraid and couldn´t jump. So the employee said that if someone wanted to do am bungejump for free, then he could do it now.

My father said for fun that his daughter (me) would love to do it, and because they were a lot of people who wanted to see a bunge-jump they were like "Yeah, do it! Do it!". Because I didn´t wanna bee seen as a scared-cat I just was like "Yeaaah... ok!"

Scariest moment of my life, not gonna lie. But- I would definitly do it again. The feeling of the free fall was scary and beautiful and that is what I imagine freedome feels like.)

  • My interests in other cultures

What are your official holidays and why do you celebrate them?

Who are your national heroes? Why?

What kind of food/dish is special for your country/region?

What is your favourite movie about your country?

Is there anything that you don´t like about your country/region? What is it and why?

What DO you like about your country/region? Why?

  • My proudest accomplishments

Hm. Difficult. I mean, I am 18 and the things that I will list now are probably considered „normal“ for older people, but for me these are achievements.

My apprenticeship in a federal authority. On the one hand because there were so many applications for the apprenticeships (250 applications on 4 apprenticeship places), and on the other hand because I have so much fun in my apprenticeship! I love what I am doing and even if the school is sometimes a little bit hard sometimes because we have to study a lot, I know why I do it.

Then my driving license! I was so scared to drive a car, but I passed the driving test anyway! (…somehow)
And, last but not least, my friends, cause they are always there for me and support me! They are the best!

  • A personal challenge

To start my apprenticeship and to push it through until now!

“What should be so hard about it?” you might ask yourself.
There is so much that´s connected with my apprenticeship – I moved out from my parents into my first own flat, and I did my driving license beside my apprenticeship. I had to organise and structure myself because I started to live alone and there was no one who did it for me anymore.

And sometimes, there where points (mostly in school), where I had no motivation and thought I can´t do it. Not because I didn´t enjoyed my apprenticeship, but because I really thought I can´t do it and will fail my (midterm-) exam.
Therefore I am proud of myself that I pulled through so far (Half of my apprenticeship is almost done, one and a half years to go and I am taking my midterm exam on February 2018) and I do not really have such bad grades as I always expect.

  • It was better before

    Music

TV-Show, because then there was not as much trash in tv as it is now.

Celebrities, because previously the people who became famous were smart and today a lot of celebtrities are just really dumb.

  • It is better now

    Freedom of speech

information culture (you can get information easier than ever).

You can express yourself better than ever (Sexuality, Gender...)

  • I wish people knew more about...

    Politic

    other Sexualities than Heterosexuality

    Things like beeing transgender

    mental health

  • As a child, I wish...

    Nothing, my childhood was great.

  • A career without obstacles

I think the job of the psychologist is pretty interesting, but I don´t know if I could set a cut if my job is over or if I would take the stories home with me and think about them all the time.

Primary school teacher is also cool, or working as an criminologist.

  • My parents and me

I think the things we fight most about:

They want to participate in my life much more than I want them to. They just don´t see me as the adult that I am.

  • My feeling about the future

Partly- yes! I am excited for my own future!

But when I see the world and the actual politic (Trump and Kim Jong Un, wars...), I fear the future.

  • My opinion on human nature

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

    -Albert Einstein

  • I feel concerned about...

My apprenticeship (Will I make it? What happens then?

    My future. (I overthink it...)

  • Improving the school system

First of all: It should be standardized.
(For all of you who don´t come from Germany: Every federal state of Germany can decide about his schoolsystem on its own and design it themself.)
I its not okay that there are practical 16 different schoolsystems in one country. We basically have 16 different High-School-Degrees, because they distinguish from federal state to federal state in theire difficulty and compulsory subjects.

Also- our grade system. Unlike the United States we have grades from 1 to 6 (1 is the best, like an A, 6 is the worst, like an F.) We get the grades and at the end of the year the average is calculated and that is the mark you get on you´re school report. But in my opinion, there is a difference if you have an average of 1.5 or an average of 2.5!
In both cases you´re end mark would probably be a 2 (when you have an everage that is between 2 grades the teacher in germany can decide which he grade he gives you).
I think the System in German High School is very good. In 10th grade, you don´t get marks/grades anymore, you get points. The highest score is 15 which would be an A+ or an 1+. 14 points are an A/1, 13 points mean A-/1-.
So these points exactly show how well you did in an exam. These points are also at you´re diploma, so everyone knows exactly how well you did.

The conditions of the students should also be considered. Where does he come from? Are there problems in his familys? Does he have any mental illness that make it hard for him to concentrate or speak in front of the class, ect.? All of this can lead to bad grades, even if the student is ambitious and smart.

Just a few thoughts, this list is not complete, but I don´t want it to be too long.

  • Over or underrated

Things that are overrated (in my opinion):

-single notes on a test (don´t get mad because of on bad mark! you won´t fail the class because of one mark and almost always have time to get better)
-sex (mostly in your youth and the first time)
    -what other think of you
    -to be famous

Things that are underrated (in my opinion):

    -good friends
    -living alone
-getting a good result on something you worked hard for
-finding you´re soulmate (not just romantically)
    -Harry Potter
    -laughing really hard
-taking a warm bath after a cold and hard day

  • Something to tell the world!

    Hi!
I am Mary, a 18 (nearly 19!) year old girl from Germany.

My hobbies are: meeting new people, meeting friends, reading, writing, watching youtube videos, binge-watching netflix series.

I love anything that involves Horror, I am funny (often really bad jokes, and I also love black/dark humor). I am a trainee and love music.
